Belgotex is a leading soft-flooring specialist that designs, manufactures and distributes its products, and that generates a lot of data spread across the organisation, some in sales, some in production, some in HR. With the data sitting in different places, it was hard to see relationships across it or get a holistic view, and pulling it together kept becoming a manual task that crowded out the actual analysis.
02
The approach
We spotted the gaps in what Belgotex could report on and built a common data warehouse to bring everything together. Core data was extracted from their IBM Db2 servers into a central Microsoft SQL Server, then ingested into Microsoft Fabric, and modelled with the help of business users and subject-matter experts. For proper data lifecycle governance, data moves through a staging area for consolidation and then a transformation area where business logic normalises and enriches it. Reporting is done through dynamic Power BI reports, and we gave Belgotex a semantic layer to report from, with dimensions and drill-through they did not have before. We designed it to take in real-time IoT data from the plant in future.
03
The outcome
Belgotex now has one central place to report from, with the data automated so people can focus on analysis instead of gathering. They can see relationships and correlations across previously separate sources, explore the data dynamically, and the platform is ready for factory IoT data when they want it.
