01

The challenge

Project Exodus is a recovery strategy for substance dependence, compulsive disorders and addiction. To reach a changing audience, they wanted a new mobile channel that could support people anywhere with life-recovery planning, a core part of their methodology.

02

The approach

We joined Project Exodus in an integrated team to design and build the app end to end, from requirements through to launch. Requirements were worked up in Balsamiq and Adobe XD, with the backlog and QA run through Azure DevOps. We built a modern, secure backend on Azure using .NET Core, with a Xamarin cross-platform front end on top, and shipped to both the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app handles life-recovery planning and skills development, with integrated payments for once-off and subscription purchases, plus email and SMS reminders.

03

The outcome

Project Exodus launched its app in February 2022 and went on to be named a finalist in the MTN Business App of the Year awards. The codebase gives them a consistent, maintainable foundation for future recovery tools, and First Technology Investments contributed over half a million rand, about $40k, towards the build through its social-responsibility commitments.

Summary & benefits

  • A modern, Azure-hosted, cross-platform recovery app on both major stores.
  • Integrated payments, with email and SMS reminders.
  • A foundation for future, more specialised recovery tools.
